Wearables: Going Knots for Texture

Alright guys, let's get real for a second. In real life, blogging sometimes takes the back burner. In real life, sometimes you get sick or you get sad or you get so busy you just try to go to bed before midnight and lugging your laptop around all day so you can blog on the 50 minute bus ride just sounds god awful, so you don't do it for a while. That's real talk. So, I apologize if any of you have noticed a lag in posting-ship of late, but sometimes that just happens. I wish wish wish this were my full time job but since it's not, I have to keep like, bread on the table. Or pasta in the cupboard. Or whiskey in my glass. You get the idea. Also in real life things: sometimes I have my mother take outfit photos of me in the backyard of my family's house in Marin. So, you may be able to tell that this is in a somewhat suburban setting and not an awesome photoshoot in a field or an abandoned warehouse or in front of some beautiful shrubbery. But you get pictures of my dogs! So there's that...

DSC_3084 DSC_3102 DSC_3109 DSC_3116 DSC_3119 DSC_3140 DSC_3078I was going to wear a different pair of boots with this outfit, but then I remembered that the last time I had worn those boots was with stockings and a dress and they probably wouldn't fit over my normal pants and normal socks. Nope, they did not. So you get some more of this "real life" stuff here, since I've been wearing these Steve Madden beauts for the past month straight. This is my second pair of these, actually, since the first installment died somewhere around the end of law school after I wore those ones every day as well. Are you seeing a pattern here?

I do like to experiment with my fashion but since my job is neither formal nor does it require me to be particularly trendy (the stereotype of people wearing sweatshirts everyday is not entirely false), I find myself falling into... fashion habits. I won't call them ruts, that's just being a Negative Nancy. These fashion habits consist of: jeans or black pants, one of the five pairs of boots I own, a black or navy sweater, maybe some gold jewelry. I like what I wear but I also like branching out, so I need to consciously do more of that. Yes! That!

Another of my fashion goals this year (god, that sounds so predictable. "Fashion goals." I'm doing the best I can at 8am.) is to wear more lipstick and be comfortable looking "so made up." I wear like 13 steps of eye makeup everyday but somehow lipstick just pushes me over the edge. But no more! I will not fear the many shades of red!

What was I talking about? Anyway, this outfit. This is my attempt to branch out from my black sweater uniform. Thoughts?
